Dish soap is a surprisingly effective way to tackle furniture stains. Its grease-cutting power and mild formula make it safe for most upholstery and wood finishes. Here’s how to use it for different types of stains:
- General Fabric Upholstery Stains
Mix: 1 teaspoon of dish soap with 2 cups of warm water.
Blot: Dip a microfiber cloth into the solution and gently blot (don’t rub!) the stain.
Rinse: Wipe with a clean, damp cloth.
Dry: Let air dry or use a fan to speed up the process.
- Grease Stains (Food, Oil, Makeup, Lotions)
Sprinkle baking soda over the stain to absorb excess oil. Let sit for 10-15 minutes, then vacuum.
Apply a few drops of dish soap directly to the stain and gently work it in with a damp cloth.
Wipe clean with a fresh, damp cloth and let dry.
- Wood Furniture Stains (Sticky Residue, Water Rings)
Mix: A few drops of dish soap in warm water.
Dampen a cloth and wipe the affected area.
Dry immediately with another cloth to prevent water damage.
- Leather Furniture Stains
Dilute: Mix a few drops of dish soap with warm water.
Use a soft cloth to gently wipe the stain.
Dry with a towel, then apply a leather conditioner to restore shine.
