Regardless of the kind of product you’re using—detergent or soap—effective cleaning requires a lot of effort. To be more precise, there are three types:
- Chemical energy that the detergent or soap provides
- Thermal energy, which is produced by heating water; • Mechanical energy, which is produced by a machine or by hand.
Let’s examine how each of these components functions.
Assume that one of our favorite shirts has a large, greasy, oily stain on it. To get the stain out of our clothing and make it clean, water is insufficient.

Chemical energy is provided by the laundry detergent. The way the detergent’s components react with the stain on our shirt produces this energy.
Although it is invisible to the naked eye, the detergent’s molecules are drawn to the stain and aid in drawing the dirt off the clothing into the washing machine.
Let’s now investigate the effects of adding mechanical energy. Activate the “Mechanical” button.
Clothes move back and forth inside a washing machine, bumping against other objects. This energy is mechanical. The stain is helped to come away from the surface of our shirt by the rubbing motions. Watching laundry move within your washing machine is an example of mechanical energy in action.
Even with human hands, mechanical energy can be produced.
Thermal energy is the last category of energy. Select “Thermal” from the menu.
Temperature is the definition of thermal energy. Hot or warm water helps hasten the stain’s dissolution. The majority of modern laundry detergents can function just as effectively in colder temperatures, even though warm water can help things along more quickly.
For optimal performance, all three forms of energy require the appropriate duration. Less of the other types of energy is required the more of one is consumed.
For instance, the washing machine’s mechanical energy and the hotter water could harm delicate clothing. To get them clean, we can therefore employ chemical energy in the form of detergents and more time.
