Move-In Cleaning Checklist

Move-out cleaning is about deep cleaning the property to remove all traces of previous occupants and meet any requirements for getting a security deposit back.

1. General Areas

  • Dusting: Dust all surfaces, including shelves, light fixtures, ceiling fans, and baseboards.
  • Clean Walls: Spot clean walls or wash them entirely, depending on the condition. Address any scuff marks or stains.
  • Doors and Doorknobs: Wipe down doors and sanitize doorknobs.
  • Windows: Clean windows inside and out, including window sills and tracks.
  • Floors:
    • Hardwood/Tile: Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors. Use appropriate cleaners for each surface type.
    • Carpets: Vacuum thoroughly and consider professional carpet cleaning, especially for stains or heavy wear.
  • Mirrors and Glass Surfaces: Polish mirrors and other glass surfaces to remove smudges and streaks.

2. Kitchen

  • Appliances:
    • Oven: Clean the oven, stovetop, and hood. Use oven cleaner for tough grease and grime.
    • Refrigerator: Empty and clean inside and outside. Remove shelves and drawers, wash them, and wipe down all surfaces.
    • Dishwasher: Wipe down the inside and clean the filter.
    • Microwave: Clean inside and outside, including the vent and control panel.
  • Countertops and Cabinets: Clean and disinfect countertops. Empty all cabinets and drawers, wipe them out, and remove any liners.
  • Sink: Scrub and sanitize the sink and faucets. Ensure the drain is clear and clean.
  • Trash: Remove all trash and ensure that garbage cans are clean.

3. Bathrooms

  • Toilet: Scrub and disinfect the toilet, including the bowl, tank, and outside surfaces.
  • Sink and Vanity: Clean the sink, countertops, and cabinets. Don’t forget to wipe mirrors and fixtures.
  • Shower and Tub: Scrub the shower walls, tub, and faucets to remove soap scum, mildew, and hard water stains. Clean the grout if necessary.
  • Floors: Sweep and mop the floor, paying attention to grout lines and corners.
  • Ventilation Fans: Dust and clean the exhaust fans.

4. Bedrooms and Living Spaces

  • Closets: Empty all closets, wipe down shelves, and dust any rods or hooks. Vacuum or mop the floor.
  • Baseboards: Clean and dust all baseboards in every room.

5. Final Touches

  • Check for Forgotten Items: Do a final sweep to ensure nothing is left behind.
  • Fresh Smell: Consider airing out the space or using an air freshener to leave a pleasant scent.

The Ultimate Cleaning Checklist

Cleaning chores every month
Certain areas take a little longer to get unclean. Use them no more than once every four weeks.
An example of a scrub brush

All around
-Dust every surface, including picture frames, bookshelves, your TV and console, side tables, and more. This may need to be done every two weeks.
-Apply glass cleaner and use a clean cloth to spritz and wipe the inside of the windows.
-After using a microfiber cloth to dust the baseboards, follow these guidelines for cleaning.

-Use your vacuum’s brush attachment to dust blinds, or use a microfiber cloth to gently clean each slat. If they appear extremely dirty, think about giving them a deeper clean.
-Rinse the filter on your vacuum if you can. (Once a year, give the machine a thorough cleaning.)
-Dust vents and ceiling fans.

Restroom
-Fixtures and mirrors should be cleaned. To prevent stains from appearing, spray solution onto your microfiber cloth rather than the mirror.
-If your shower curtain and liner fit into the washing machine, wash them. (The majority can!) Try these suggestions and an enzyme stain spray if you have to clean yours by hand.


KITCHEN
-Including the filthy, sticky burner grates, scrub the stovetop.
-Using a microfiber cloth and warm, soapy water, scrub the appliance fronts and cabinet doors.
-Empty and sanitize trash cans.

-To de-stink the dishwasher, put a bowl of distilled white vinegar on the top rack and run a cycle. also wash the filter. Wash the gasket and door rack as well while you’re at it.
-If the top of the refrigerator is exposed, dust and clean it.

Living Area
The couch and other upholstered pieces should be vacuumed. To retrieve every last crumb, remove the cushions using the proper attachment. Keep an eye out for any loose change.


laundry area
Give your washer a thorough cleaning. Remember to use the gasket. Advice: To lessen the chance of mildew, keep the door open in between cycles.
